    Using Improvement Science to Accelerate Learning and Address Problems of Practice. Carnegie advocates for the use of improvement science to accelerate how a field learns to improve. Improvement science deploys rapid tests of change to guide the development, revision and continued fine-tuning of new tools, processes, work roles and relationships. The teaching-family model (TFA) is a model of care for troubled youth used internationally in group homes, foster care, schools, home-based treatment, and other youth and dependent adult care was developed in the s through research at the University of Kansas. Researchers included Montrose Wolf (the inventor of time-out as a learning tool to shape behavior) and Gary Timbers.
